MAJA FERNQVIST is originally Swedish, but has lived in New York for the past 20 years. She has a multi-awarded background as
a Creative Director in the advertising industry, and collaborated with A-list directors, writers and DP’s: Academy Awarded Cinematographer Linus Sandgren, Academy Awarded Directors Jonathan Glazer, Martin Scorsese, Directors Johnny Green and Noam Murro. Fernqvist gained a lot of film experience over the years, which, a few years ago, led her to pursue her passion for directing.

Fernqvist’s strong conceptual and visual storytelling background has truly helped shaping her unique voice as a director. Her work includes music videos, art films, commercials and short films officially selected by film festivals. Fernqvist have worked with projects for Lionsgate, Warner Brothers and the National Geographic Channel. She also had the wonderful privilege to work as a PA on Martin Scorsese’s “The Departed”, as well as working on a project with Writer/Producer Stephenie Meyer.

Fernqvist has been presented a plaque at the Women in Film Lucy+Crystal Awards, she was selected as one of the emerging directors by SHOOT for its New Directors Showcase, and she has been awarded at the Brand Film Festival for her outstanding work. She was one out of eight directors selected for the prestigious AFI DWW+ 2026 program this year - initiated to support emerging women directors.

Fernqvist puts a lot of attention on how to tell her stories in artful and visually arresting ways, and often with a twist of something unique and unexpected. She is very intrigued by projects where she can blend her dark Swedish, emotional sensibility with intriguing large scale, fantastical narratives. Craft is always at the centre of her work.
